PLEASE MEET CALYPSO
Calypso needs a home and we pray you can help. This precious girl was turned in to one of our local shelters. I would like to take just a few moments to tell you about her.
Her name is Calypso and she just turned two years old. She was dumped at the shelter as a stray, but she really wasn't stray at all. Her owner just didn't want her anymore.
The shelter tracked down her breeder and learned a lot about her. For example, she is an "Italian Mastweiler".
WHAT IS AN ITALIAN MASTWEILER?
A Mastweiler is a cross between an English Mastiff and a Rottweiler. (Don't ask - I can't tell you the purpose of this cross.) The Italian Mastweiler incorporates Cane Corso blood into this mix. So, our girl is half Cane Corso, one quarter English Mastiff, and one quarter Rottie.
Calypso has some really interesting traits. For example, she 'talks' like a rottie. And 'guards' like a corso.
She is really an amazing dog. Very smart and quick to learn or figure things out. She is calm and quiet in the house, and very obedient. And she is sweet and gentle with people. There is truly something special about this dog that has touched my heart. The most striking is that she REALLY wants to bond and belong. She is hungry for someone to call her own.
Calypso LOVES puppies. She should. She was bred the first time at only 9 months of age. She appears to have had several litters already, all before the age of 2. She won't be bred again - we're seeing to that. But her motherly instincts are so strong that she has adopted one of our own pups, who won't leave her side and is sleeping with her in the crate at night.
Calypso is not too big. She weighs in at 86 pounds, is a beautiful brindle with natural ears and a rottie-dock tail.
THIS GIRL NEEDS A HOME AND A FAMILY!
Calypso has been treated shamefully - used up and thrown away. A lesser dog would not be so forgiving. But for Calypso, being dumped might be her second chance.
All she wants is a home and an owner of her own. At only two, she has her whole life ahead of her. She is a natural guardian and would make a wonderful companion and protector for a single person or a family. However, she really should be in a home with no other dogs.
The shelter evaluator was very impressed with her. She is sweet, loving and attentive. She LOVES people and warms up very quickly. She has a strong guardian instinct and watches out for everyone - people and puppies. She especially seems to like children.
Calypso is confident, very smart and curious about her surroundings. We took her to our training field, and she was anxious to get in the game. She has some basic obedience, and clearly wants to please. But once she bonds with you, she does not want you out of her sight.
Given what we've seen with her so far, we believe Calypso will make an awesome family protection and companion dog. She is young and wants a job. Obedience training is a must, but we think she could excell at protection work as well!
Calypso developed Kennel Cough at the shelter (as many dogs do who spend much time there). We presently have her in our home and are treating this, so that she can regain her health and go to an awesome home!
Right now, Calypso is sleeping in a crate in my livingroom. She's safe for now, but she won't be happy until she finds her new owner, the one who will love her and make her their own. If you have room in your home and your heart for Calypso, and would like to find out more about her, please visit our website at:
