hello to everyone I want to give you all an update. I am sad to say the spca has confiscated 6 of the seven dogs that I have rescued from the BRB due to them being part of an investigation and evidence in the case. I will have first rights to the dogs after the trial. He is stating that he had done nothing wrong. The one dog that I have already placed is still with the new owner and they have agreed to leave this with the new owner due to the vet records that he has. I will post this pic soon. He is a handsome boy. Can anyone give me any advice on if I should persue the dogs after this trail due to the fact that I don't know how long this will take. I have receipts for the vet bills and I have been told that I can ask for this money as part of his fine.

If you do plan to rehome these dogs on your own, please ask for references - both vet & personal.  I have done a number of these checks & you would be shocked at some of the lies people will put down.  People that look good on paper, even sound good on the phone might not be such a good home.  Some people won't even give reference numbers - red flag!  After talking to a vet once, I found out a man who said he had no other dogs had recently brought in a litter of pits to have their ears done & currently had 3 females & 1 male on his property (all intact)!  I called a mother who told me she would never consider leaving her dog with her daughter overnight & that while she loved her grandchildren, they were so ill behaved they would terrorize a dog!  And these were the references people actually listed!!   eek  Unbelievable!

Best wishes in finding qualified & loving homes!!  Thank goodness these dogs will know a better life - one of love not just for breeding!

I left space in the adoption application for Matt to make decisions about who he will adopt to - if he wants to deal with out-of-state adopters, etc.

Will the Corso puppies information be posted here? And are their any regulations as far as distance? Can I see a copy of a adoption form as I would like to help?

Matt I emailed you a sample adoption application.  I'm revamping an adoption contract for you and will send that later.

Wow!! That is amazing to hear that you have rescued all of those poor puppies. I hope that everything turns out well and you are able to find some really awesome families to adopt them.

Ok I have a clearer understanding of what was suggested now. Morfeen please send the form to my email address that you have I think if not it is mattsmith0026@yahoo. Mary I will call some rescues that I have talked to in the past if you know of any in KY please send me a link. Carly thank you for your help understanding this, It is hard to determine sometimes how to take things in email. And Marcia I will be in touch with you for backgrounds. Do they need to give me any kind of written consent to do this?

Oooh, great points about the contract, Morf.  Yes, Matt, you could definitely write up a contract that states you have NO guarantees on this dog, and are not responsible for it at all once they take possession.

You are doing a wonderful, amazing thing by taking in 7 puppies!  Wow!  Congratulations.

I don't think there is any advantage to turning them over to a rescue, you would never recover your money and besides why put those pups through yet another move to another home.  HOwever SOME rescues will do a "courtesy post" where they will publicize these dogs for you, and have people contact you if they are interested in the pups.

Legally, I don't think using an adoption application makes you more responsible.  If people are going to complain or return to you, they will do it anyway, whether you have used paperwork or not.  In my opinion, having an adoption application and a contract can help because then all the info is in writing.
An application is just a form where you can keep their name, phone number, address, past history with dogs, and vet references.  It makes it easier to keep track of all the people who apply.
A contract will says (1) if they can't handle the dog, they need to return the dog to you or to a rescue, (2) that you are NOT giving any guarantees about this dog.  That way if they do come back to you, you can remind them that they signed a contract (keep a copy with their signature on it) saying they do not hold you responsible for guaranteeing health or temperament on the pup.  This is

Just my opinion, I am sure you will make the best decisions for you.  Anyway if you want to talk, call me!

Once again, good job!

Matt - I think Mary's suggestion on contacting a rescue was more to ask them if they know of anyone who is looking for a puppy ~ not so you can turn them over to a rescue.  You may find that the rescue has had (and perhaps holding) some requests for puppies as soon as they become available.  It might be a good way to find someone who is looking for a puppy but hasn't been able to find one yet.

As for the adoption form, I think Morf is talking about just an application, not a contract of any kind.  Just general questions like how long are you away from home each day for work, do you have a house/apt, yard, fenced, your experience, etc.  People can fill out the form and you can save time having to ask all these questions every time (and that way you won't leave out questions or forget to ask, etc).

I think both are great ideas that could help you find good homes for the pups.
