[ADOPTED] Mastiff Male Rescue, Blue Brindle, Available for Adoption
"Fang" is a striking Mastiff male, just three years old. He has a gorgeous blue brindle coat with a white spot on his chest, a little white on his toes, natural ears and a docked tail, weighing 115 lbs. Fang's head type and temperament make him a certain Neapolitan Mastiff, but his tighter skin, and body allow for possible influence of another breed, perhaps a Cane Corso Italian Mastiff in the mix too.
Fang has been shuffled thru a number of homes that did not understand a mastiff's needs, and has been in protective custody due to poor care/abuse twice already in his short life before coming into our rescue. Sadly, no-one has ever taken the time to even train him to walk on a leash. He arrived a tad underweight and covered with an old dead dull hair coat in horrible condition. On a positive note, he is healthy and happy fellow - and some good quality food and training will have him fixed right up in no time. He is neutered, heartworm negative, current on heartworm prevention, up to date on all vaccinations and worming, microchipped, young, healthy, and simply a striking dog! He doesn't have any health issues, and is a wonderful loyal companion just waiting for a home and family to call his own. He does have natural protective / guarding instincts, and will alert and bark at strangers approaching his yard or car. He is very friendly, trusting, and sweet, and meets new people with ease. Fang does great meeting adults, strangers, men and women, kids, we have not yet had a chance to evaluate how he will interact with young children.
As is typical with male Neapolitan Mastiffs, Fang is not dog-friendly with other dogs. He is not tolerant of other dogs in his space, and is not good with cats. Fang is very much a "people dog". He is wonderful with people and will make someone a wonderful devoted companion, but he needs to be an only dog.
Fang is very praise motivated. He loves to make people happy and to know that you are pleased with him. In the time he has been here he is already putting on some weight, has learned respect for personal space and not to jump on people, and is learning to walk without pulling on a leash (we do not use prong or choke collar correction. He is also very treat motivated while training. He is very friendly with all people - adults, strangers, men, women, and children. He enjoys car rides, and will jump right in if you open the back or a door. He is perfectly mannered in the car, riding well with no problems, no motion-sickness, and no destructive tendencies.
The biggest drawback to this fellow is simply his lack of training and his enthusiasm and excitement - he is a big puppy and was never taught respect for personal space. He is a very fast learner though. He loves to just be near you, and is a laid back dog who is perfectly content to hang out in the yard all day long as well. He will happily settling into a new home of his own very quickly, and will be guarding "his" home and yard within a week.
Fang is a gorgeous dog, very well built, nice conformation and a beautiful head without a lot of loose skin or droopy eyes - he is a very striking fellow. At just three years old he is past his puppy stage, settled down and ready to focus and learn some doggie manners and obedience, and has his whole life ahead of him. He is a very happy, energetic guy, and will bond quickly to a new family. He is already 'guarding' our yard when someone approaches the gate. Unlike many dogs who come in thru rescue with health issues and problem, Fang simply needs some training and an only-dog home to call his own. If you think Fang might be the perfect dog for your family, please contact us for additional information on him.
