They started to tell me funny/crazy stories about the things their dogs had done - dogs they still love and dote upon.
Their Corso teenager was bored and so he TOOK APART A LAWNMOWER.  How he did this without cutting up his tongue is a mystery to all of his.
They bought a new sectional sofa and by the time they got home the Malamute had ripped it apart and sqeezed each portion thru the dog door and left it in the snow.
their lab is on a special diet they have to cook daily themselves and massage his with all of this lotion for his allergies.
So, Bella no prob compared to these crazy critters!

HALLELUJAH!  This is proof that miracles can happen.

Bella is going to a wonderful new home on Saturday. Tomorrow.
2 young, committed dog lovers, an alaskan malamute roommate who wants to play with her, a corso-savvy household, a flexible schedule by the owners so she has lots of attention, and owners who go 100% of the way to take care of their dogs, including special nees.  Bella's new owner has been looking for a Presa for over a year.  he even found a doggie daycare with another male presa for her to make friends with.
I hope I get some pics of her new life, but as it's only acros the city so I am sure there will be no probs.

I will miss all her kisses and snuggles, and of course NOW all my friends are all emotional about saying goodbye to bella - esp. my roommie, who realy wanted to keep her, but couldn't for health reasons like mine.

Not everyone is cut out for fostering - I am happy for Bella, but a lot of my friends are crying and trying to find excuses to keep her - no way!

I love fostering, and find the new home is the best part.

so assuming everything works out.... Luca gets to sleep in bed with me again - on the nights that the Bf doesn't kick him out for snoring, LOL.

I appreciate what you have gone through to look after the Lolagator.  She is lucky to have found you.

One of my main reasons for not taking Bella in the first place was that I could not afford another dog.

I got talked into fostering because the rescue was supposed to pay all her bills.  None of that happened.

It took me months to scrape together 2k to buy a car used when my old car broke down.

And then there is my health, which means that it is very hard for me to look after Bella even when she is in good health.

I'm not trying to be dramatic, just saying that my personal situation is pretty dismal.

At the moment, I'm just keeping an eye on her, and we will do palliative care to manage pain until it gets too bad.

Of course, if some Presa-lover wants to adopt her and take this on, I'm all over it.

But so far I haven't even been able to find her a home without the knee issues, so.....

oye Sad

lola's was considered pretty severe ~ she was a grade 3 (of 4).  it went from a grade 2 to a grade 3 inside of 2 wks, and this was on very limited activity. no running, no walking, no jumping, very little playing with jones.  her knee would dislocate upwards of 50x day...with barely any action at all.  just walking to the kitchen would cause it to come out of socket, and she would be standing there with her leg up Sad  it was horrible.  only once (when it initially was dislocated) did she scream in pain ~ all other episodes were clearly uncomfortable, but not even a whimper.  how long has it been since this started happening, and how does it seem like she is in pain?  (i'm just curious).  my vet told me that the longer it is not corrected, the worse it will get, and the more problems it will cause otherwise ~ ie: deterioration of the knee joint, ACL tear and assorted damages.

because hers was more severe, it required 3 methods of surgical correction ~ they lifted her kneecap and sawed a wedge in the bone to give the cap a deeper groove to run thru.  they sawed the corner off her tibia and rotated the bone outward to realign the muscle groups (so they were not pulling the cap out of place).  then they placed a big "band/stitch" thru the kneecap and around the tendons etc to keep everything where it's supposed to be.  she had 2 pins in her knee for 6 wks, which were taken out in a quick outpatient surgery. there are options for 4 separate procedures i think (and combos thereof), based on your budget and her needs there are choices.  he said i could probably get by on 2 of these procedures, less so on only 1 --- i opted to do all 3 at once to give her the best chances and minimize surgeries/downtime.  one year later, she's better than new.

lola is quite active as well and i thought there's no way i would be able to keep her down for that long ~ but for the most part she did this on her own.  at least for the first couple wks, she was very careful with it, and did the resting on her own. after that, while i was home and jones was around, i sedated her.  just enough to keep her a little groggy, so that she would not be up and trying to play.  not ideal, but it worked very well, and better that than further injury.

this vet is awesome and was willing to work with me on the cost as i'm a "friend of a friend."  still.....i would've had a hard time affording it if my parents hadn't paid for it.  i'm very fortunate that they are generous ppl.  so.....i understand the bind Sad  i'm not trying to talk you into it, just trying to explain how my situation was and tell you that there are options.  maybe we can figure out something that will work??

i dont blame you in the least for being upset/emotional, and you are not being dramatic.
